Steven Joseph Wolfe, a retired entrepreneur and real estate investor, started his investment portfolio in 2013. It now includes a 118-unit single-family rental community, five vacation rentals, new-construction apartment complexes, two Marriott hotels, and a medical biotechnology startup. In 2021, he ventured into the senior living industry with a project in Durango, Colorado, which he successfully sold in the spring of 2024. Since then, he and his partners have launched seven additional senior living facilities across Minnesota and Iowa.
Steven’s business acumen spans multiple sectors, including restaurant and franchise operations, real estate development involving apartments and hotels, and the burgeoning field of senior living facilities, focusing on assisted living and memory care. This broad expertise has enabled him to manage and grow diverse business operations effectively.
In 2000, Steven became a Panera Bread franchisee. He managed six outlets across southern Minnesota and western Wisconsin, building a substantial business that employed over 350 people. Under his leadership until the sale of his franchise in 2019, the operations consistently ranked among the top five in national customer satisfaction surveys among all Panera franchisees.
He skillfully handled all aspects of franchise management, from overseeing the general managers for each location to collaborating with a district manager for regional planning. His hands-on leadership style ensured operational excellence and maintained high standards of service across his franchises.
Steven’s marketing strategies effectively maintained Panera Bread’s national brand while also adapting to the dynamics of the local market. This approach not only sustained business growth but also supported the expansion of his franchise operations.
Prior to his tenure as a franchisee, Steven was an independent insurance broker specializing in supplemental insurance sales in the Chicago suburbs. His initial sales experiences, which included selling educational and Christian books during his college summers, helped build his resilience and refine his sales techniques.
Steven was born the sixth of ten children in Davenport, Iowa. He graduated from Assumption High School in 1988 and went on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management with a minor in History from St. John’s University in 1992.A dedicated community volunteer, Steven has made significant contributions to local nonprofits and food banks. His franchises alone have donated over $300,000 annually in bakery products to various organizations.
